POAL is pleased to advise that MUNZ has withdrawn its planned 24hr strike notice for 7 am January 31. The union has instead accepted POAL’s offer of a paid four-hour stop-work meeting with its members.

Ports of Auckland Chief Executive Tony Gibson said today that mediation talks with the Maritime Union of New Zealand – Local 13 (MUNZ) had progressed some way, with the union agreeing to reduce its forthcoming strike from 48 to 24 hours. The strike will now start at 10.30 pm Friday night instead of tonight.

Please note that the 2011 Auckland Triathlon will be running along the Auckland Waterfront on Sunday 20th November. As a result Quay St will be closed from 04:00hrs – 13:00hrs on the 20th November.

Due to a change in shipping POAL will be altering R&D hours at Bledisloe terminal on weekends. Commencing from the weekend of the 15 and 16 October the weekend hours will be.

Following recent requests, Ports of Auckland has agreed to make Captain Cook wharf available as a back-up fan zone should crowd capacity limits on Queens Wharf be exceeded during the remaining weekends of the Rugby World Cup. The southern part of Bledisloe may also be made available later in the event if required.

On Friday the 9th September there will be significant activity in the harbour, due to the Rugby World Cup 2011 opening ceremony. The harbour will be closed to all commercial vessel movements from 1830 to 2030hrs.

Ports of Auckland have recently had a number of Dangerous Goods containers that have been left on the Port in breach of our dangerous goods licence. Should an incident occur involving such a unit our ability to handle dangerous goods in the future may be jeopardised.

From July 1st 2011 Ports of Auckland will invoice the Consignee or Agent for the cost of completing a MAF External inspection or Wash for full containers.

Ports of Auckland has in place a formula for calculating the Fuel Adjustment Factor (FAF) to compensate our business as and when the price of fuel fluctuates. This process has been in place since August 2006 and we have continued to keep customers informed of the trend to the changing purchase price of fuel.

NZ Customs has recently advised their new process for X-ray and physical inspections. X-ray and physical inspections are now required to be completed through the NZ Customs on-wharf facility, prior to being released to the importer.
