InterACT CBS

Ports of Auckland will soon introduce a streamlined container receival and delivery process, and will implement new systems and technology to support the improvements.

This will include the replacement of the current Vehicle Booking System (VBS) with a new Container Booking System (InterACT CBS) and a paperless gate process. The changes are planned for mid to late August, following the completion of industry briefings and training.

InterACT CBS is designed by Ports of Auckland based on input from a number of stakeholders representing road carriers, freight forwarders and cargo owners, as well as lessons learnt from supporting the existing suite of applications. The software has been developed by Total Soft Bank Ltd. (TSB), a leading global software solution provider for the maritime and port logistics industry.

Data that already exists across various parties in the container logistics chain, such as line operator booking references and container numbers, will be aggregated when containers are pre-advised through the online CBS portal.

Once the container has been pre-advised, the carrier will be able to make an appointment to collect or deliver the container.

Cargo owners and freight forwarders will have access to the system to pre-advise their import and export containers – an essential step in the new process. This information will be validated against that supplied by shipping lines.

With complete information in InterACT CBS, carriers will be able to book their appointment and enter the port directly via an automated gate process using their drivers licence.

Ports of Auckland will continue working with carriers, cargo owners and freight forwarders in the coming months to provide training and to identify and address any concerns and ensure a smooth implementation.

The existing Pre-advice and Movement Under Bond functions currently available in InterACT, will become part of the CBS.

The CBS and gate automation project is the first of three stand-alone projects that form the long-term strategy and programme to upgrade Auckland’s container terminal management system (TMS).
